Project
ANC South Terminal Cooling Systems Upgrade
This project involved replacing the central chilled water-cooling plants serving the B and C Concourses of the airport. The new chilled water plants feature five identical, highly energy-efficient 333-ton magnetic bearing chillers—two dedicated to Concourse B and three to Concourse C. These chillers supply chilled water directly to the central air handling unit’s hydronic cooling coils for each Concourse. The installation for the Concourse C chilled water plant was carefully phased to ensure uninterrupted 24/7 process cooling for IT rooms, restaurant coolers, and freezers. As part of the upgrade, closed-type cooling towers were replaced, and Nupi Niron (PP-RCT) piping was installed to replace existing steel piping, significantly reducing the risk of future corrosion.
