Headshot of John Lackey

John Lackey, PE

Associate/Senior Electrical Engineer

John graduated from Montana State University with a master’s degree in electrical engineering. After spending a year working in construction, he felt the need for a change, which led him to Alaska and the start of his career with AMC Engineers. In the spring of 2015, John decided to return to his hometown of Bellingham, Washington. Following a brief hiatus to enjoy a summer of camping and mountain biking across the western United States, he rejoined AMC Engineers and established the company’s first satellite office in Bellingham. Since then, John has enjoyed building strong client relationships and working on exciting projects throughout Washington State while continuing to collaborate with the Anchorage office on Alaska projects. In February 2015, John experienced his 15 minutes of fame when he set a record in the Iditarod Trail Invitational bike race, riding from Knik to McGrath in just 1 day, 18 hours, and 32 minutes. Though he may not be as fast as he once was, you’ll still find John hitting the trails year-round, enjoying his passion for mountain biking.

Get to know John

  1. What has been your greatest achievement or your proudest moment while working at AMC Engineers?

My proudest moment at AMC to date has to be completing the design of the new Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center Hospital in Sitka, AK.

  2. Why did you choose this career?

I’m not sure I chose this career; honestly, it kind of chose me. After moving to Alaska, I was looking for work and applied to a few places. AMC offered me a job, and the rest is history.

  3. If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be?

Welding or doing a backflip on a bike. But welding would be way more practical, so I’ll stick with that.
